A Story of
Wu Mien
Wen
10
years old, Wu Mien, and her 8 years old brother, Wu Shao Wei, are
two of the 300 children supported by the Seedling Development Project.
Besides being poor, they have a very unique experience.
During the visit of July
2005, we found out that their father, Mr. Wu had leukemia. In November
2005, we visited them again, but Mr. Wu had passed away and was
with our Lord. Shao Wei told us he missed his father very much.
On August 26, 2004, Mr.
Wu felt sick and went for a check up. Unexpectedly, he was diagnosed
with leukemia. The doctor also stressed that the only cure was to
have a bone marrow transplant. The cost for having such a transpalnt
would be several hundred thousands RMBs (the Chinese yens). With
their utmost efforts, they could only borrow several thousand RMBs
which was insufficient for the procedure. So, Mr. Wu was discharged
from the hospital on September 20. After that, he began going to
church with the family.
By November, after taking Chinese Herbal
medicine as an alternative for a month, Mr. Wu's situation didn't
improved but got worse. Again, he was sent to the hospital. This
time, the doctor said his leukemia had entered the final stage,
and estimated that he had three months to live. The doctor also
mentiioned that he might have one month to live if chemotherapy
failed.
During these months, Mr. Wu's family and
his church fasted and prayed earnestly that God would heal him.
He told his wife, "Let us check out from the hospital. The
doctors gave me a 'death sentence," but God has not. I would
place my life and death in God's hand." After discharged
from the hospital, he stayed in bed for a month. Once his condition
deteriorated, his family invited the church elder to baptize him.
The elder later mentioned that Mr. Wu appeared to be at peace during
the
baptism.
In
the days of Mr. Wu's illness, the attitude of the 10- years-old
sister and the 8-years-old brother matured. They shared chores everyday.
The sister was responsible for cleaning the bowls and dishes while
the brother swept the house. When their mother was in the hospital
taking care of their father, the sister bore the mother's role to
cook and coach her brother to study.
In Sunday school, they were praised by their teachers. During their
father's illness, they developed a praying habit. Sometimes, even
at night, they prayed out loud in their dreams. One Sunday morning
before all the children arrived at church, a church elder passed
by the classroom and saw them knelt in prayer. The 8-years-old brother
even prayed out loud.

a follow-up visit by our staff in July 2005, Mr. Wu got better marvelously.
He was very talkative, and demonstrated some warm up exercises.
He did not look like a very sick person at all. When the siblings
were taking photo with their parents, they grasped their parents'
hands tightly (as shown in the picture), as if they were afraid
to lose their parents. They grapped each opportunity to enjoy the
warmth and love of their parents .
Although
Wu Mien is only 10 years old, she acts like a "little-big"
leader. She is a prefect of her children Sunday school and children's
choir, helping her teachers to maintain order and lead the choir.
Before her father passed away, she encouraged her parents to attend
church and never to lose faith in God.
Now after her father had gone, the financial burden fell largely
on her mother. Facing the financial pressure and indebtedness, her
mother strives to support her family by working in the market place
selling pork. Persistently, she continues to serve in the church
choir..JPG)
Please remember this family in your prayer. Pray that the Wu's
siblings will grow up healthy
and become the soldiers of Jesus.
