Seedling Development Project
Progress Report
Wen
Beginning fromNear the end of June, I went
over tovisited two churches respectively to confer with their co-workers
church leaders regarding the detailed implementation method of the
Seedling Development Project. After several clarifications and explanations
on of the concept, the co-workers came to a better understanding
that the Seedling Development Project is not merely a relief subsidy
but an approach of to "helping them to help themselves",
a preparatory work for evangelism. After such a realization, the
co-workers church leaders were excited to discover that besides
the conventional way of circumstantial assistance, there is this
caring method that not only spreads the Gospel but have has the
added benefit of strengthening the Church's children and Sunday
school School ministry.
Following that the co-workers were trained on in how to fill in
the concerned child basic information and taught how to draft the
a family tree. Everybody described their own family background in
an excitable, childlike manner and the opposite party will would
draft the family tree based on their description. Everybody did
an excellent job! I complimented them and added that from now on
they are were professionals as only professional resume application
forms require the inclusion of a family tree!

Home visitation and observation is the most important and time-consuming
aspect. In addition to the time needed to communicate with the concerned
family, there is often the time wasted due to abortive visits when
the family members were out. During the home visit and study, the
counselors need time to understand personally the problems and needs
of the concerned child and of his/her family. Later discussions
were are held to check if their assessment and administration is
fitting. In August
this year the co-workers spent lots of time on practical home visitation
and were expected to identify the neediest child’s family within
the designated area. After many months of hard work, we have selected
two provinces, Anhui and Shaanxi. There we have identified 300 children,
half of them are in elementary school, and the other half in middle
school. Before the schools commence in late August or early September,
the co-workerschurch leaders granted and sent in the scholarships
for their first semester.

In November, we will hold activities in two
villages. The activities include life education, Bible stories,
games, and distributing the new 2006 calendars for all the families.
We will continue to help the families to establish proper hygienic
outlook methods and improve their living environment. This includes
the handling of village toilets and refuses trash so as to mitigate
limit the spread of disease through insects. To these villages,
this poses a very serious problem.
Problem and Challenge
How to train counselors to possess a forward-looking caring perspective
is the an important challenge for the future. In general the most
straight-forward method is to give monetary assistance directly,
as it saves time and effort. , Get getting it over and done with
once the money is distributed. It is true that some of the pressing
needs require immediate financial aid. But many issues could be
resolved through a change in mindset and with that the gains are
multiplied many folds with the same amount of money.
Under the constraint of limited resources, the future co-workerschurch
leaders will face the challenge of how to impart the love of God,
through tangible ways to the impoverished families surrounding their
Churchchurch.
