The Story of Little Chubby
Lillian Chen
Thank God for His Grace! In the last issue
of Pray For China, we printed the story of little Chubby, who is
mentally retarded. Many readers were touched, and wanted to help.
They called and asked about the boy's condition; and they sent in
checks designated for little Chubby and his grandma. I greatly felt
the deep love and support from God's people. Our co-worker made
a special trip to visit the little boy at the end of July to assess
his recent condition. To our surprise, little Chubby's condition
was much improved.

Shortly after our first visit, our co-workers helped Niu Meng (little
Chubby) to apply for free medical benefits, and he had an operation
on his feet. Now, his feet are stronger. Every day, he will practice
walking for 200 meters to strengthen his muscles. Niu Meng is also
going back to school in September with the help from the "Seedling
Development Project."

During the July visit, our co-worker helped to fix Niu Meng's tricycle.
Before the tricycle was repaired, Niu's movement was restricted
because he could not use the tricycle. Now we could see him moving
around in his village, riding on his tricycle. His feet are weak,
so he uses his hands to "pedal" the tricycle. We are so
happy for him! As he pedaled, he would sing this song to praise
God: "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help comes
from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth!"
The shabbiness of the home of Niu Meng is beyond our imagination.
The mud walls are so uneven that the mud can crumble off at any
minute. It is very dark inside. It is lit by two 20-watts light
bubs, which are connected to an electrical cord that can be moved
with the bubs to any place that lighting is needed. As such, most
of the chores are done outside and as much as possible during the
day light time. The grandma shared with us her pain when the boy
was abandoned and the burden and
hardship of raising her grandson. But when she sees how happy her
grandson is now, her face lights up, and brings a smile on her otherwise
sad face.
We will continue to help Niu Meng to understand how God loves him,
and to teach him to have a positive attitude for himself, to help
him to be a person after God's own heart. We believe God has planned
something good for little Chubby. Thank
you everybody for caring about Niu Meng.
Because of you, little Chubby and his grandma have a better future.
We have taken some pictures of Niu Meng and
his grandma, and we will show them during the China Ministry
Music Sharing Night on October 22. We would like to welcome
you and your children aged 12 years and up to attend this Sharing
Night. We will conduct this Sharing Night in both Mandarin and English
for the sake of our American born generation.
